CHANGES TO THE ADMISSIONS ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2022/2023
In order to fulfil our obligations under the School Admissions Code 2014 we hereby notify you that Bishop Gilpin CofE Primary School is consulting on changes to its admissions arrangements for the 2022/2023 academic year.
We would welcome responses from interested parties.
Bishop Gilpin CofE Primary School is currently consulting on proposed changes to its admissions arrangements for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Guidance from the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education has highlighted the need for church schools to clarify how church ministers will consider applications when families have been prevented by exceptional unforeseen circumstances from fulfilling faith based over-subscription criteria.
One proposed amendment to the arrangements gives church ministers the opportunity to take such exceptional unforeseen circumstances into account when deciding whether a family has fulfilled the requirements of the school's faith based over-subscription criteria.
Secondly, the governors recognise that representation of low income families at Bishop Gilpin is lower than at other local schools and wish to increase opportunities for children from such families to attend the school.
The second proposed amendment therefore concerns the offer of priority under the admission arrangements for a limited number of children qualifying for the Early Years Pupil Premium Grant or for Free School Meals based on family circumstances.
The consultation period will run until 31 January 2021.

Faith-based Oversubscription Criteria and Covid-19
The school has applied to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator to vary its admissions arrangements for the school year 2021/2022 to take account of the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic on families’ ability to attend worship. We are currently awaiting the Adjudicator’s decision and will update these pages as soon as the decision is published.
Our Admissions Policy (note 6) explicitly gives church ministers the discretion to take into account unavoidable circumstances which have prevented parents’/carers’ attendance at worship (and have prevented their active involvement in the work and mission of the church, if applicable), when considering whether the faith-based oversubscription criteria have been met.
